Light. It tends something we tend to take for granted with the rising of the sun or the hit of a switch.
Have you ever thought about how much light can impact your safety? We tend to think of flashlights to illuminate areas we are familiar with during a power outage or a space in our garage, attic or basement that is dim, or other areas that are too dark to handle a repair or locate something we need. In this case, a flashlight can offer convenience. Practical uses can range from finding something lost under a car seat, locating the fuse box in your garage when one has blown, making a repair to a car or machine in a dimly lit space or using on a camping trip or hike. But what about situations where having a flashlight could affect our safety?
Many of us have experienced the uneasiness a poorly lit parking garage or side street can cause, yet we continue to overlook these and other scenarios where having light could keep us from getting hurt or even save lives. I was tasked with evaluating several different types of tactical and practical use lights. That experience gave me an opportunity to think about flashlights and the power of illumination in a different way. Now, having a powerful, high quality flashlight is as essential as my wallet, phone, or keys.
For example, what if the power goes out at your office when you are working late one winter evening? Having a PowerTac Scholar Penlight, Lance Gen2 Compact Pen Light, M6 or E9R Gen4 small utility lights could quickly light your path so you could pack your things and leave. Now, imagine a situation where the scenario was more precarious. What if an intruder entered your office while you were working alone on evening? This applies to your home too. A compact pen or utility light could be the difference between being a victim or saving yourself and your family. For the office, a Powertac Scholar or Lance Gen2 penlight are great choices. At home or in your car, I suggest keeping a M6 or E9R light model in your glovebox, purse or by your bedside. Small, easy to carry and operate, these lights can be used to blind your attacker to give you an advantage and provide a means to escape and call for help.
