We’ve been approached by more and more groups wanting training. As tempting as it is to begin offering classes, I really want to complete our facilities first.
With COVID fears still lingering as well as the ammo shortage and 300% cost increase on what ammo is available, we feel the time is not ideal anyway.
We are pumping a ton of our labor and resources to go to extremes to build one of the nicest ranges in the region.
We’ve spent every spare weekend working on the facility. We could have half-heartedly graded it and thrown-out grass seed and called it good but people that know me understand that I don’t do anything half-heartedly. This range will rival any other outdoor range in the region.
Since our last update we have run electrical service and water service to the range and installed irrigation on the berms.
Yesterday, we installed irrigation in the bay floor and run communication conduits to the backstop from the utility hub at the back of the range.
The next steps will be to seed the berms with Bermuda grass and stakeout the bay floor for the edging and fine grade the bay floor and work on acquiring telephone poles for the edging.

After several months of 75+ hour work weeks running our companies and then spending our weekends moving hundreds of yards of dirt, we finally achieved our greatest milestone for our shooting range last weekend.

We now have one of the largest action shooting ranges in the Charlotte region and will soon have the one with most amenities as well.

We are looking forward to our grand opening in a few months.

Now that we have the biggest phase of work completed, we will be posting our progress more frequently.

Guns in general always tend to be a political hot button, but let’s take the politics out of it. This is about safety, not your political affiliation.

Why concealed carry?

A concealed carry permit allows you to protect yourself by carrying a firearm concealed from those around you. It can help ensure you experience a better outcome in the event of an attack. (Notice that I said “allowed” and not “equips”. Once you have your concealed carry permit, it is a good idea to continue to get additional training to ensure your safety and that of those around you while improving your firearm handling and shooting skills, but that is for another blog post.)  There are limitations to that permission, such as schools, government buildings and other posted areas, which will be covered in your concealed carry permit class.

What are the benefits of carrying concealed?

Responsibly carrying a concealed firearm allows you to protect yourself from potential victimization. It enables faster response in an emergency situation. Police response may not be immediate enough to address a situation in which you or someone else is being assaulted.  If your life is threatened, you want to make sure you have the best tools at your disposal to prevent an assault and remove yourself from imminent danger.  A firearm is one of those tools, along with a clear head, good decision-making skills, quick reflexes and awareness of your surroundings.

Carrying concealed also allows you to carry a firearm without needlessly alarming or scaring others. Think about it…if you were to see someone with a pistol openly holstered on their hip in a public setting (in an open carry state), such as a grocery store, how would that make you feel?  Uneasy? Scared? Worried? Of course! These are natural feelings brought about by our survival instinct. It is unnecessary to make those around you feel uncomfortable when your intention for carrying a firearm is self-protection.

Carrying concealed allows you to protect yourself without advertising to criminals or individuals with questionable intentions that you have a gun. We are not in the movies. It is not wise to reveal that you have a firearm in unknown company. By doing so, you could be putting yourself in an even more dangerous situation. In addition, it is unlawful to reveal your weapon in many jurisdictions.

With your concealed carry permit comes great responsibility, but it has its advantages too.  When you carry, you tend to be more alert and cognizant of your surroundings. You are more likely to be reluctant to indulge in distracting behaviors such as checking your phone and notice elements in your environment which prompt you to exercise caution.

Taking a concealed carry permit class also provides you with valuable knowledge about your state’s gun laws. This is a key focus of any concealed carry permit class. It is your responsibility to know the laws of your state and any states you are traveling to and carry in a lawful manner.

It also provides an opportunity to familiarize yourself with your firearm. You should know how to disassemble, reassemble, clean, store, handle and control your firearm. Knowledge is power and makes you a responsible gun owner.

As you may have already gathered from this blog post, your responsibility doesn’t end with simply getting your concealed carry permit. You have duty to yourself and others to be informed about gun laws, safely handle and control your firearm, improve your shooting skills and think clearly in stressful situations.

Popular among law enforcement officers and security guards, it seemed like such a serious tactical flashlight and I wondered if I was going overboard by getting something like this. However, being an avid hunter and outdoor enthusiast, I had been drooling over this flashlight for quite a while so I decided to go ahead and take the plunge. Of course, learning about PowerTac’s “No Hassle” lifetime warranty definitely helped sway my decision.

And boy am I glad I did!  I can assure you that the PowerTac Warrior Gen IV Flood Light did not disappoint. With a stunning max output of 4200 lumens, this flashlight can seriously light up the darkest and remotest of areas. The brightness combined with the throw makes this a great flashlight for hunting or remote camping. With a throw of up to 214 meters, you can really light up a wide range of area around you well enough to make out features and identify objects. I’ve used it to successfully scout and set up base camp locations after dark in remote wilderness and desert areas. I’ve also been able to use it to identify and can keep pests away both at home and at camp.

It’s also a really tough and durable flashlight, which I like, because being out in harsh weather conditions can sometimes be rough on my outdoor gear. Not the case with this flashlight. It can really withstand some abuse. It has worked great even in freezing temperatures, has held up in rain and snow and after being dropped in puddles and mud, and so far has shown no signs of slowing down. Its body-parts are made from aircraft grade aluminum, and it has a tough, durable Type III anodized finish. Since the lens is made of tempered glass with double-sided coating, the lens has remained intact despite being dropped so many times. But don’t just take my word for it. Check out this insane torture test that shows the PowerTac Warrior lights can really hold up.

What’s also impressive about it is the fact that despite being able to use it as a flood light, it is still small enough to clip to a utility belt or mount to your rifle. It’s too big for regular size pockets, but can fit in most larger pockets like cargo or jacket pockets. While you’re sacrificing a bit in terms of portability and lightness, you’re making up for it with the extra brightness as this light practically turns night into day.

I also like that the auto-memorization feature allows me direct access to my preferred brightness setting without having to toggle through each setting every time, so I know that I can quickly light up an area around me if I need to. This allows the flashlight to double as a self-defense tool as well. I feel safe carrying this flood light in very dark, very remote areas, because I can easily light up dark corners at a distance. And with the easy to use strobe feature, I know I could temporarily disorient an attacker if need be.

At $199.95, I thought the flood light was a steal. While it may seem steep if you’ve never carried a top of the line flashlight like this, its durability, brightness, and range have made it worth every cent. After using one of these, I would never go back to using an ordinary cheaper flashlight.

I will admit I was skeptical at first, but the more I carried it – the more I valued having this particular light for daily use and safety.

Small, but powerful, this little light has a myriad of uses.  It works great for illuminating small spaces, such as under your car seat, hood or office storeroom. The LANCE GEN2 is also handy for brightening up a dim hallway or parking lot so you can see your surroundings.  Don’t expect to be able to jot a note with it, as the “pen” reference in its name appears to refer to its size only, as it lacks the ability to write.

It is simple in design, with a push button to turn it on, off, or activate the strobe light feature.  Who needs a complicated switch mechanism when you need light quickly?  It works with one OR two AA batteries, which also enables the light to have 2 sizes.  I was delighted to see the assembly is much smaller when just using one AA battery, allowing it to conveniently fit in my wallet or pocket.

Another thing I noticed was that this light was easy to grip, thanks to a partially rubberized body and stout, compact size. If you do happen to drop it, however, there is no need to panic. Like many of the flashlights from POWERTAC, the LANCE GEN2 is waterproof and submersible as well as impact resistant up to 2 meters.  To get a sense of just how durable these lights really are, click here to check out a video where they are put to the test!  Trust me, you will be impressed.

With up to 290 lumens in brightness and the strobe feature, the LANCE GEN2 light can be used to blind or disorient an attacker. With is crenulated bezel and solid composition, it could also be used to strike an assailant.

Now let’s talk price. Considering the durability, dependability and quality, the $45 price point is well worth it. Could you pick up a small light at your local home, hardware or discount store for a cheaper price? Sure, but could you count on it?  The answer is probably not. Like you, I have gone through several of those lights, only to have them break easily when they were dropped or simply not work even though their batteries were new.  In fact, I stopped carrying them because they never seemed to work when I needed them.  That is not the case anymore. I don’t leave home without my LANCE GEN2.

It’s a great all-purpose utility flashlight, and I definitely wouldn’t want to be caught without it. It’s super compact and easy to carry with me, yet still emits an impressive 1300 Lumen output, perfect for lighting up the path in front of me or lighting up dark corners and hallways.

The M6 is also excellent for use in the garage or shop when I’m tinkering around with my tools or working on the car. The magnetic tail cap has saved me hours of hunting for those pesky stray nuts and bolts that always seem to disappear. With the M6 nearby, I just stick them on the magnetic tail cap to keep track of them now.  It’s also great to be able to attach the flashlight to any metal surface at my workstation for an instant hands-free flashlight, especially useful if I need some focused overhead lighting. And, bonus, no more trying to track someone down to hold the flashlight.

Just like many of the other PowerTac flashlights, this one has the new magnetic charging system, making it super easy to charge. Just plug in the magnetic charging cable and that’s it. There is a battery indicator that turns red when it needs charging and changes to blue when the battery is ready to go.

The M6 also has the easy push power button that we’ve come to appreciate with other PowerTac flashlights. I’ll admit it was a bit of an adjustment for me to have the power button on the side instead of on the top where it usually is, but having the magnet there instead is definitely worth the adjustment period it takes to get used to it. One thing that helped with that was aligning the clip to where the power button is. That way I can remember where the button is and can find it easily in the dark.

This handy little flashlight really gets the job done and doesn’t break the bank like some other tactical flashlights. The M6 runs for $79.95 and is well worth it in terms of how versatile this flashlight is, especially when you consider how tough and durable these PowerTac Flashlights are. Have you ever thought about how much light can impact your safety?  We tend to think of flashlights to illuminate areas we are familiar with during a power outage or a space in our garage, attic or basement that is dim, or other areas that are too dark to handle a repair or locate something we need. In this case, a flashlight can offer convenience. Practical uses can range from finding something lost under a car seat, locating the fuse box in your garage when one has blown, making a repair to a car or machine in a dimly lit space or using on a camping trip or hike.  But what about situations where having a flashlight could affect our safety?

For example, what if the power goes out at your office when you are working late one winter evening? It is handy for working in dim, confined spaces or simply when I need to have my hands free to make a repair. It is also a must have for camping, as it can be used for both cooking and cleaning up, searching for firewood, or even for night hikes and night cycling. It’s easy to use, light, comfortable and allows me to light up an area around with me while still leaving my hands free, making it perfect for almost any night task.

The flex headlamp is much lighter than other lights of equal brightness, making it comfortable to wear even for long periods of time.

When considering headlamps, I was really torn between purchasing a headlamp with more of a flood light or a more focused beam. What I love about this headlamp is that it comes with both a flood light mode and a focused beam mode. This headlamp gives you both options, so you don’t have to decide between one or the other.

The first output mode is the focused light mode and has low, medium, high, strobe, and S.O.S. settings with high, strobe and S.O.S. putting out 2500 lumens.  The highly focused white beam has a 204 meter throw, which is greatly great for hiking or walking around at night in darker, remote areas.

The second mode is the diffused light mode, which has a red or white diffused light that is softer (150 lumens) and can be used in more enclosed workspaces and in areas where you don’t need such a bright beam.  The red light option in this mode is useful for preserving my night vision while still allowing myself to be seen by others without blinding them.

I really like that you can move the light around until it’s at the perfect angle, eliminating the frustration I’ve had with other headlamps where I could never get the beam in quite the right position.
